Conference
Since 2014, Plurall by BEM (former Brasil em Mente) promotes an event dedicated to discussing the teaching, promotion, and nurture of Portuguese as Heritage Language (PHL) within educators and researchers from around the world. In 2018 the event started to be biannual and in 2020 had its 6th edition online. This change was caused by the COVID-19 pandemics, which continues to impose challenges upon the world. Hence, the 7th edition of this event will be online.
The 2022 edition will bring two changes. The event will be directed to a wider audience, since it will expand its theme. In addition to discussing the contexts of PHL, it will approach the teaching of Portuguese in various bilingual settings (e.g., Dual Language Programs). That is the reason why the event will be now called Conference about Teaching, Promoting, and Nurturing Portuguese in multilingual contexts (CPMC).

Specifically, we want to discuss how how this process is so intrinsic to the history of humanity and, at the same time, central in the makeup of public and linguistic policies that exclude and divide, as well as promote bilingualism. We wonder, however, which kind of bilingualism; based on what kind of views of language, identity, and culture; promoting which languages, identities, and cultures.
In this sense, we are hoping to receive presentation proposals in the following lines:
- The influence of the majority language on acquisition, teaching and promotion of Heritage Language (or additional, or target, etc);
- Linguistic policies;
- Practical proposals for the teaching of Portuguese in school and university contexts;
- Curriculum;
- Didactic materials;
- Instruments of evaluation;
- Dual Language;
- Family and community interaction.
If you have a proposal for a presentation, contact us immediately at [email protected]
