Ciranda Cirandinhas Vamos Todos Ler e Escrever (Ciranda Cirandinhas Let's all Read and Write) is one of Brasil em Mente's editorial works and, without a doubt, the one that better represents this organization's mission: the encouragement and promotion of Portuguese within the families that live outside of Brazil. In this collection, full of information, ludic and contextualized activities, this ideal is definitely materialized and can be transformed into a real possibility at home or at the community school.
The goal of the collection is to auxiliate parents and educators in the process of teaching literacy, one of the possible consequences of the bilingual lifestyle for Little Brazilians (children or grandchildren of Brazilians that were born and/or lived outside of Brazil, to whom Portuguese is a Heritage Language).
This work is the result of a research conducted for over 5 years ago by our Founder and Educational Director, Felicia Jennings-Winterle. a natural researcher, Felicia has been developing a method based on the use of culture as a basic material for teaching-learning Portuguese as a Heritage Language.

The idea of the method is to allow positive transfers between languages which the child speaks and promote a global learning, supporting on the general development of the child's Psychomotricity and in the literature and writing of the country in which the child lives in.
The book was made in a format free from many visual Stimuli that can distract and/or stimulate the children too much. We chose images, instead of drawings, to reinforce the reality of this process and this way, help the child incorporate it in their day-to-day life.
And what makes this collection an essential element in the teaching of portuguese as a heritage language?
The method was developed from the educational practice with Brazilian children, Portuguese speakers as a heritage language. This characteristic is indispensable - the everyday life of these Brazilians is very particular and full of challenges. One of these challenges is to make it so Portuguese belongs to the context of life of the country of residence, and, consequently, the identity of a child with at least 2 citizenships; another is making so that the learning of the language is not disconnected from the culture in which they belong to. ma
But how? Ah… this is the speciality of this author.
Through songs, verses, stories, and many jokes, the kids get to know each other and, identify themselves with the culture. But still, through autonomy and that the reading and writing give, these pupils are invited to produce their own stories about the fantastic world in which they live in, also, in Portuguese
